~ Sparrow…~
At the parapet of my house
There used to live a sparrow
Everyday in morning, she’d tell
me something in her language
Chirping ‘chee-chee’ ‘choo-choo’
would she demand food grains
Looking at the lovely sparrow
I’d remember my childhood…
With her flock, she would
descend from the blue sky
Sometimes jumping in patio
Sometimes hopping in yard
Seeing her flitter every day
Would give me spiritual bliss
Looking at the lovely sparrow
I’d remember my childhood…
Picking rice grains in her beak
She would take them away
Feeding her chics in the nest
Erasing their insatiable hunger
The chics would rejoice always
Waiting eagerly for mother’s arrival
With food and her endearment
Chics would exhilarate madly…
Seeing the sparrow’s selfless love
Would make my eyes moist
Unknowingly my mother’s idol
would emerge in glistened eyes
Mother’s memories that day
Made me cry inconsolably
That innocent little bird
Taught me the lesson of love
Love is priceless, says adage
There’s more to gain; Coz
Everything is to be left behind
While going from this world…
Live in love, die in love
Fade in love, is all I learnt
True meaning of selfless love
I learnt from the sparrow only!
