Silent Laughter is a powerful cardio-vascular exercise that relieves stress instantly, boosts immune system and produces feel good hormones known as endorphins. It is cathartic, massages internal organs and induces deep breathing from the diaphragm.

Silent Laughter is a laughter exercise where we laugh silently without making any sound. The laughter is vigorous but there is no sound. You may use facial expressions and hand gestures to articulate your laughter. It’s more fun than other laughter exercises because the more you try to suppress the sound of laughter, the more difficult and hilarious it becomes until everyone burst out laughing loud.

It’s a powerful cardio-vascular exercise, alleviates stress and induces deep breathing from the diaphragm. Silent laughter is cathartic and boosts our immune system. It produces copious amounts of feel good hormones known as endorphins. Gentle laughter massages all our internal organs thoroughly.

First of all, one needs to cultivate childlike playfulness and get prepared to laugh for no reason. Then, the laughter needs to be sustained for 5-10 minutes before going into Laughter Meditation. You become quieter and relax – laughing less and less outwardly but more and more of your laughter is inwardly.

One of the happiness activities described by the positive psychologists for taking care of your body is acting like a happy person.

Laughter Yoga suits best in this category. It is voluntary laughter, for no reason, to create instant joy. It’s scientifically proven, easy to learn and a lot of fun.

It’s based on the principle: motion creates emotion. You act happy and you start feeling happy.

We demonstrate three laughter exercises – milk shake laughter, mobile laughter and hearty laughter – in this video. You can practice these any time and feel happier.

Laughter yoga is an integral part of our programme – ‘The Wheel of HAPPINESS & WELL-BEING’.

“The Wheel of Happiness and Well-Being” is an activity based, multi dimensional program for health, happiness, peace and well-being. The components of the program include Positive Psychology, Meditation, Yoga, Spirituality and Laughter Yoga.

The faculty of the Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research, Indore loved participating in ‘The Wheel of Happiness and Well-Being’ program conducted in their campus in February 2017.

Our most fulfilling experience has been to bring cheer in the lives of special children.

This is a laughter session with special children conducted by Jagat Singh Bisht along with Radhika Bisht and Gulyora Shermatova. The videos and pictures, courtesy: Dr Sneha Lakhotia.

The experience of Laughter Yoga with mentally challenged children at Rotary Paul Harris School, Indore, India has touched the core of our hearts and has given us the fulfillment of bringing cheer in the lives of sweet little kids.

While returning from my office one evening, I took a slightly different route to avoid heavy traffic. On the way, I discovered Rotary Paul Harris School for the mentally challenged children. Next day, I visited the school. There I met Rotarian Radheyshyam Maheshwari.

He told me that it is very challenging to provide education to children with mental challenge. In addition, they impart vocational training and training for the daily needs of the children. This requires a lot of patience and devotion because each child needs individual attention. They have 60 students but the average daily attendance is only 50-60 percent. These students are taken care by specially trained staff. They also engage them in sports, music and extra-curricular activities.

I shared the concept of Laughter Yoga with him briefly. His response was very positive and we fixed a day and time for our first laughter session with the special kids. The kids responded to our first session with great enthusiasm and energy. We were taken by surprise by the positivity generated by the affirmation VeryGoodVeryGoodYay. They loved milkshake laughter, mobile laughter, argument laughter and hearty laughter. But we realized that they could not clap in rhythm, chant hohohahaha or follow the deep breathing exercises.

I had along discussion with my wife Radhika, who is also a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher, in the matter. We decided to focus initially on simple clapping, VGVGY and the laughter exercises which the kids liked. Radhika worked hard with the kids on Tuesday mornings week after week and gradually the kids started picking up. A weekly session on Laughter Yoga was included in their time table. Mrs Neeti Billore, the Principal, and her team of Teachers were always with us during the sessions. On the occasion of New Year, we visited the school with members of Suniket Laughter Club, Indore and shared sweets with them.

The school authorities told us that they propose to showcase the progress in laughter sessions in front of the parents of the kids and members of Rotary Club during their Annual Day celebrations. The kids were all prepared for the event and laughed coherently to the surprise of all present. We felt satisfied as our efforts had borne fruits. Everyone could sense how close the kids felt to us. The effect of joy cocktail was more than evident on the faces of the kids.

On the annual day, we also conducted a laughter session for the families of Rotary Club members which was appreciated by one and all. Prior to that, we had given a presentation of Laughter Yoga in one of their club meetings. Looking to the good effect that laughter is having on the emotional well-being of the kids, we propose to continue with our sessions in the school. The warm welcome that is accorded to us by the kids every time we visit is too valuable for us to loose. We would like to continue to work with them to completely erase the mental and emotional scars and deprivation of their early childhood. It would be really fulfilling if their lives get the missing rhythm through hohohahaha and very good very good yay.

This is a laughter yoga learning video for those who would like to lead laughter yoga sessions on their own. Probationary/ Trainee Officers from all over India come to State Bank Foundation Institute (Chetana), Indore on a regular basis for their initial grooming. All of them have a brief tryst with Laughter Yoga during their stay here.

Some days ago, Shiva Prasad K and Barane Tharan expressed desire to conduct laughter sessions on their own when they are back home. They organized a brief learning session encompassing the 4 basic steps of laughter yoga and videographed it.

Laughter Yoga is a unique concept of prolonged voluntary laughter created by an Indian physician Dr Madan Kataria in the year 1995 in Mumbai. We begin laughter as an exercise and it soon becomes contagious by eye contact and childlike playfulness.

How to do it all alone for 10 minutes everyday

Laughter is the best medicine. To get all the health benefits of laughter, you need to laugh deep and continuously for 10-20 minutes. How to do that every day when you are all alone? This video is a tutorial for that.

Laughter Yoga is usually done in groups. People find it difficult to practice it on a daily basis by themselves.

Laughter Yoga is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for no reason without relying on humour, jokes or comedy. The concept is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between real and fake laughter if done with willingness. One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits.

Dr Madan Kataria, a medical doctor, founded the first Laughter Club with just five members in Mumbai in the year 1995. Today there are thousands of laughter clubs all over the world where laughter is initiated as an exercise in a group but with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter.

It is called Laughter Yoga because it combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and the brain which makes one feel more energetic and healthy.

When we laugh, our body generates feel good hormones called endorphins which improve our mood and general outlook.
