It was a deeply memorable literary moment when Capt. Pravin Raghuvanshi ji’s amazing poem “लावण्यपूर्ण रात्रि-अभिसारिका” was recited during the Bicentenary Celebration dedicated to the legendary Romantic poet Lord Byron in London, United Kingdom. This poem is based on Lord Byron’s legendary poem She Walks in Beauty.

An Indian Poetic Tribute at the Bicentenary Celebration of Lord Byron, London
It was a deeply memorable literary moment when Capt. Pravin Raghuvanshi ji’s amazing poem “लावण्यपूर्ण रात्रि-अभिसारिका” was recited during the Bicentenary Celebration dedicated to the legendary Romantic poet Lord Byron in London, United Kingdom.
The poem drew its emotional inspiration from Byron’s timeless masterpiece “She Walks in Beauty” — a work celebrated across centuries for its sublime portrayal of feminine grace, inner purity, and the perfect harmony between light and darkness.
Byron immortalized beauty through the unforgettable imagery of “cloudless climes and starry skies,” where external elegance reflected an inward serenity and innocence. Deeply moved by that poetic vision, I attempted to reinterpret a similar celestial aura through the sensibilities of Indian literature, classical Hindi expression, and Sanskritised poetic aesthetics.
Thus emerged “लावण्यपूर्ण रात्रि-अभिसारिका” — a poem that seeks to portray not merely physical beauty, but a divine feminine presence illuminated equally by grace, tranquility, compassion, and spiritual luminosity.
The poem consciously embraces the classical Indian tradition of aesthetic contemplation, where beauty is not confined to appearance alone but becomes an expression of inner harmony and elevated consciousness. Moonlit imagery, divine metaphors, contemplative stillness, and emotional purity form the essence of the composition.
What made the occasion especially meaningful was the warm appreciation the poem received from poets, scholars, literary admirers, and members of the international audience present during the celebration. Many listeners observed that while the emotional spirit of Byron’s Romanticism resonated throughout the poem, its voice remained profoundly Indian in imagery, diction, and philosophical undertones.
For me, the recitation became more than a literary presentation.
It became a symbolic dialogue between two poetic civilizations — the Romantic imagination of the West and the introspective aesthetic tradition of India.
Poetry ultimately transcends geography, language, and time.
Its truest identity lies in its ability to awaken beauty within the human soul.

Original English Poem by Lord Byron
~ She Walks in Beauty ~
–
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
*
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
*
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
– Lord Byron

☆
Your silence
is exquisitely rare
The more you
keep your lips sealed,
the more
its worth keeps rising
I often wonder
what price
your silence commands now…
Will it
rise even further…?
And once again,
I wrapped myself
in a long silence…!
============

THE sleep that flits on baby’s eyes ⎯ does anybody know from where it comes? Yes,
there is a rumour that it has its dwelling where, in the fairy village among shadows of the
forest dimly lit with glow-worms, there hang two timid buds of enchantment. From there it comes to kiss baby’s eyes.
The smile that flickers on baby’s lips when he sleeps ⎯ does anybody know where it was born? Yes, there is a rumour that a young pale beam of a crescent moon touched the edge of a vanishing autumn cloud, and there the smile was first born in the dream of
a dew-washed morning ⎯ the smile that flickers on baby’s lips when he sleeps.
The sweet, soft freshness that blooms on baby’s limbs ⎯ does anybody know where it was hidden so long? Yes, when the mother was a young girl it lay pervading her heart in
tender and silent mystery of love ⎯ the sweet, soft freshness that has bloomed on
WHEN I bring to you coloured toys, my child, I understand why there is such a play of colours on clouds, on water, and why flowers are painted in tints ⎯ when I give coloured
toys to you, my child.
When I sing to make you dance I truly know why there is music in leaves, and why waves send their chorus of voices to the heart of the listening earth ⎯ when I sing to make you dance.
When I bring sweet things to your greedy hands I know why there is honey in the cup of
the flower and why fruits are secretly filled with sweet juice ⎯ when I bring sweet things to your greedy hands.
When I kiss your face to make you smile, my darling, I surely understand what the
pleasure is that streams from the sky in morning light, and what delight that is which the
summer breeze brings to my body ⎯ when I kiss you to make you smile.
THOU hast made me known to friends whom I knew not. Thou hast given me seats in
homes not my own. Thou hast brought the distant near and made a brother of the stranger.
I am uneasy at heart when I have to leave my accustomed shelter; I forget that there abides the old in the new, and that there also thou abidest.
Through birth and death, in this world or in others, wherever thou leadest me it is thou, the same, the one companion of my endless life who ever linkest my heart with bonds of joy to the unfamiliar.
When one knows thee, then alien there is none, then no door is shut. Oh, grant me my prayer that I may never lose the bliss of the touch of the one in the play of the many.
