☆ Poetry – The toughest teacher ☆

You pushed my limits

You expanded my horizon

You deepened my potential.

But you always ensured

That I always succeed in my tasks.

You made me walk

On the path to follow my dreams

The hardships gave me, silent screams.

When my efforts yielded results

And my heart swelled with pride.

You pulled my strings in time.

You made me realise

That I can not take life for a free ride.

You gave me tears,

But at times

You also pampered me with smiles.

You have taught me the lessons

In the hardest way

O dear life ! You are a teacher

To whom I can never repay.

Crooked circumstances

asked fretfully,

I’ve shattered apart

Nevertheless,

Why doesn’t

Why is that your

Crookedness paled

embarrassingly,

Circumstances fled away

like a thrashed army!

☆ My Palms☆

My palms were empty like

a raw hollow earthen pot…

As soon as your palms clasped my palms

All the emptiness vanished

Just as the lightning gets lost in the dark clouds…

All the gaps of the palms

were filled like all the pits-n-ponds of the

thirsty earth get

filled with the nectarly

water of the rain…

My palms were blank

As blank as a

spotless white paper

But, my colourless palms

tightly clasped in your

palms turned pink

like someone dyed

the choicest dupatta

of his beloved

with the rainbow

hues of the wishes…

It was a perfectly matched

pink colour after ages,

on my spotless, empty palms…

Even now, my palms

Sneak past my cheeks

repeatedly, ceaselessly

making them blush with the

soft pink colour left

by your momentary but brief touch…

My palms were odourless

like Kesuda flower

Even today fragrance of

your palms makes my palms

enchantingly fragrant…

My palms were so

full of gloom

like a Chakva,*

the bird of solitude,

remained sad

without the company

of her beloved…

But, they got

enlivened with the

ever joyful smile

Soon as your palms came into my palms…

Listen!

Since then,

a lot of water has flowed

under the bridge

Sun has done  countless

rounds around the earth,

carrying the morning-noon -evening  on its back…

The elixir is draining

out  drip  by  drip

moment by moment

Palms have started

getting empty again

Even, your pink colour

imprint etched on palms

has started to fade…

Now, your fragrance has

subdued  in my palms

As, they are losing their

smile and ebullience

They desperately need

a refill to revive again as

they long for your heavenly

touch with all its warmth..!

*Kesuda flower

Butea monosperma, the jungle fire flower, which brightly red but bereft of any fragrance…

*Chakva bird

A waterfowl famous for being separated from its pair at night…

*Dupatta

A long piece of cloth worn around the head, neck, and shoulders by women

  ☆ Earth will be there… ☆

 I do believe this earth,

if nowhere else,

will remain in my bones

Like termites living

in a tree trunk

Like weevils living in grain

It will remain inside me

even after the holocaust…

If nowhere else

It’ll live in my tongue

and in my mortality…!

And, one fine morning,

I will wake up

with the earth

And rise up with the

water and turtle

I’ll get up and walk

to meet him

whom I have

promised to meet!
