Cycle on churning was nonstop going on. Sura and Asura want to end this process soon. It was the beautiful day of Kartik maas. Day of Ekadashi called Devutthan Ekadashi. Time to consciously waking up of Lord Vishnu.

As one more round of churning of ‘Kshirasāgara’ was about to end. One side Lord Vishnu started opening his eyes over Sheshnaga and started yawning at the other end all Sura, Asura even Lord Brahma started feeling heaviness in their heads and asleep.

Soon many lifeful creature felt down over the surface of ocean of milk ‘Kshirasāgara’.

Lord Brahma fall sleep over his pink lotus. Due to which lotus started tilting a side. Soon Goddess of knowledge ‘Sarswati’ came on her white swan and held the head of sleeping Brahma.

All other sages also slept, only Spatrishis, the seven great sage were awake and all wonder. They soon approached towards Sheshnaga, place where Lord Vishnu use to sleep.

As they reach near Sheshnaga, they saw Lord Vishnu was awake and sitting over Sheshnaga with gentle smile.

One of Saptrishi sage said, “Lord, on the site of churning all Sura, Asura, sage even Lord Brahma is sleeping. Naga Vasuki hood is fallen apart and he is seeping as well. What is this Maya, illusion, O! Mayadhra only you can know”

Lord Vishnu do salute to seven great sage and said, “come with me on site and I’ll explain you there”

Then all reached at the site of churning of ocean ‘Kshirasāgara’ where seems to be whole universe is paused.

Lord Vishnu started saying, “great seven sage, this is due to our Yoga Maya which is creation of ego and desires of individual. Which keeps people bound on their realms.

You can say it is Nidra or sleep of ignorance. It is a Tamsik shakti of mine. See towards the ocean where churning is happening”

All seven sage looked toward the churning site. They saw a beautiful black color Goddess is standing and smiling. All sage does salute to her and ask, “who are you mother?”

That Goddess replied with lazy voice, “I am Yoga Nidra or Yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. I am a state in which the one’s body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation, in which concentration on a single focus is required. In Yoga Nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light withdrawal of the 5 senses (pratyahara) with four senses internalized, that is, withdrawn, and only hearing still connects to any instructions given.

Then former king of heaven ‘Varuna’ came in front of all and said, “Indira you know better that I am the best king of Sura and heaven but destiny has made you king of heaven. You are asking how rain is falling without your permission. Are you forgetting that once all the water of universe including water of rain was in my custody? Now as Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu made you king, they have also taken right of fresh water from me and now I am only the god of ocean water. So, this rain is generated by my ocean water because here everyone has got something or other thing but I haven’t got anything.”

Lord Brahma said, “Varuna, your argue and way is not the way of Devtas. You know that this churning will be helpful for Sura, Asura, sages, animals, birds in short for all live creatures of universe and you are doing wrong to disturb this churning by making ocean rain. And the point of gift which are coming as the byproduct of churning so it is our promise that next gem whatever it will emerge from this ocean ‘Kshirasāgara’ will belong to ‘Varuna’ only. Sura or Asura do you have any objection on it?”

Sura and Indira wants to finish this churning as soon as possible to get final outcome of as liquid of immortality, Amrita from ‘Kshirasāgara’ so they don’t mind if next thing will be given to ‘Varuna’ as in other hand from the day when little disturbance appeared in between the relations of ‘Indira’ and ‘Varuna’ from that day ‘Varuna’ is closer to Bali and Asura.

On the signal of ‘Varuna’ the rain of salty water stopped and churning started.

Now came a big canopy type thing from ocean. It was actually a very big umbrella which came at the surface of ocean.

This was a divine umbrella which was taken by ‘Varuna’ to save creature of ocean during any disaster. This umbrella was appearing on the day of Gawardhan.

Now the churning of ‘Kshirasāgara’ is looking balance and both the teams doing it again with full enthusiasm with lots of hopes.

Pushing and pulling of Vasuki Naga over mount Mandara is going on. Descend air is blowing all around. That air is giving both the teams new and fresh energy. After sometime a dark smoke start appearing behind that gentle air. Smoke with poison touch which makes to take breath uncomfortable.

In between that dark smoke some figure started appearing in sky. It was looking like someone of black color is coming. Then a face of Buffalo was visible and all Sura and Asura start shivering from fear. The God of dharma and death ‘Yumraj’ was coming from south direction.

Indira started thinking in his mind, “I think Yamraj is coming to punish me”

Then ‘Indira’ started chanting name of Lord Vishnu silently.

Yamraj sitting over his Buffalo came near Indira stopped there and then moved forward. Face of Yamraj was looking like he is firing from anger.

Then Yamraj reaches where Spatrishis and other sage standing. Yamraj bow down his head in front of them due to respect and then all sage given him blessings. Then Yamraj moved further and his Buffalo stopped just in front of Lord Brahma and he said with folded arms, “My father please accept my salutation”

Lord Brahma said, “my blessings with you, keep following your Dharam. Yamraj your presence here is not a good sign. Please tell me reason of your arrival because all Sura and Asura are looking lifeless due to your fear”

Yamraj said, “Brahma, my father from past many years neither Devtas nor Danvas are doing their job, due to which life is disturbed on earth, because of which people whose life is not completed dyeing and those whose life is completed not dying because all Sura are here for which our Yamdooth, messenger of Yamraj have to kill them. I am very confused. So, I have decided to take all these Sura and Asura to ‘Yamloka’ otherwise you tell me some solution of my problem because currently I am unable to do my duty for which I have to face its result as law of karma. My restless is increasing with each passing moment”

Brahma said, “my son Yamraj all this is Maya of Narayana and only he can give relief from your mind turmoil.

Then Yamraj started doing pronounce name of Lord Vishnu with close eyes. Soon Lord Vishnu appeared in front of Yamraj with smile.

Then Lord Vishnu said, “Yamraj, nature is not permanent, in one or other aspect its keeps changing every time and evaluation of nature is basic requirement to sustain any society for long time. Sometimes we have to accept small losses for the period of some time to get long term advantages. The final outcome of this churning of ‘Kshirasāgara’ is for all the lives of earth. Don’t you worry we will pause time for human so that their karma will not effect. Soon a very special god will emerge from this ocean who will help people to cure them from disease and any kind of suffering. And from today person who lit Diya at south direction of home will not face sudden death of himself/ herself and their family. That Diya will be called yam Dipkam, candle of Yamraj and this day will be called Yam Triyodashi or Yam Deepam”

English Literature ☆ Weekly Column – Abhivyakti # 26 ☆ Barricades ….. ☆ Hemant Bawankar

Hemant Bawankar

(All of the literature written by me was for self satisfaction. Today, I present my contemporary poem ‘Barricades …..’. .))

☆ Weekly Column – Abhivyakti # 26

☆  Barricades ….. ☆

Barricades are erected on the road of life.

Experienced senior guards are vigilant

to regulate the speed of life

Sometimes some vehicles break

barricades and signals.

Sometimes someone bounces

stones of insensitivity

to spoil the non-violent atmosphere.

Then – power and forces are applied;

the lawmaker is bigger than persuader.

Why did you erect

so many barricades of

caste, religion, and sect.

Some barricades were erected

in our mind by us.

Some barricades were erected

by benefactors and you.

Often, we become puppets.

Then challans of negativity

are kept cut lifelong.

Hopefully!

You can remove barricades to see across

A positive life

A new dawn

A new sunrise.

I have tried to give broad way of this one of the most important chapter of Hindu mythology. I have read many scriptures and take references from many temples and folk stories, to present the all possible aspects of portrait of Samudramanthanam.”  Now our distinguished readers will be able to read this series on every Saturday.)

☆ Weekly Column – Samudramanthanam – 18 – Kamadhenu ☆

As ‘Kamadhenu’ first glimpse is visible to outer world people. All Sura, Asura, sages even Lord Brahma feel that they are fed with sweet milk and felt very satisfied. Even Suras who lost their consciousness, wake up and say to Indira “O! king what a taste of milk which we have drunk. Now we are feeling very energetic and can-do churning for many Yugas”

Lord Brahma said, “O! mother All the gods are residing in your body.  Your four legs are the four Vedas; your horns are the triune gods Brahma, me (tip), Vishnu (middle) and Shiva (base); your eyes are the sun and moon gods, your shoulders the fire-god Agni and the wind-god Vayu and your legs the Himalayas. I request you mother that you will keep feeding your children as you have done right now. Currently, hunger of Sura is end but Saptarishis and others are preparing to do a great yajna to complete this churning of ocean ‘Kshirasāgara’ without any restriction. So please help them to provide pure milk to make ghee for yajna. Even from today onwards you will remain with Saptarishis, because they and other sage always keep doing yajnas for which your milk will work as ‘amrita’. The people who will do your protection will be called Gaurkha or Gorakshak and a place where sage will keep you called Gokula. Today will be celebrated as day of cow called ‘Gao Dwadasi’. You will also be called Surbahi – the smell of earth.

Now Sura and Asura started churning again.
