☆ Guru for the Kurus ☆

The princes of Hastinapur one fine day

Came out of the city to Vita-danda play

While they thus enjoyed the game, the vita fell

Into a well, to their horror and dismay.

The lost vita unable to reclaim

The princes looked at the well with disgust

When their glance fell upon a Brahmin

Who challenged them and cussed

“Shame on your courage, shame on merits;

That princes of Bharat’s race can’t vita recover!

Watch me salvage the lost vita and also my ring,”

Said the Brahmin and his ring into well hurled.

A cluster of reeds he uprooted

Some mantras and chants expressed

Made a chain by joining one reed to the next

With a smile, the lost vita he fetched

Then, an arrow he fired next from his bow

And with a lightning speed, the ring pierced

Came out the ring with the arrow

Holding it in his hand, the Brahmin sneered.

The speechless princes looked at him in disbelief

Saluted him for his expertise unique

Asked him his name and his history

“Ask Bheeshma!” he replied with mystique.

When Bheeshma was informed of the act

He knew, that the Brahmin was none other than Drona

Invited him with due respect to the Palace

A guru for the Kurus had been found  to their skills hone!

(All of the literature written by me was for self satisfaction. Now I started sharing them with you all. Every person has two characters. One is visible and another is invisible. This poem shows us mirror.  Today, I present my contemporary poem ‘War for …..’This poem has been cited from my book “The Variegated Life of Emotional Hearts”.))

My introduction is available on following links.

☆ Weekly Column – Abhivyakti # 21

☆  War for ….. ☆

I’m crawling

in the battlefield,

towards

widening jaws of death

ready to swallow me.

My heart is melting

with moans of wounded knights.

Lightening of shells

and

the thundering of bombs.

Instantaneous light smiles

incessant dark laughs

and

I’m hanging between them.

I’m feeling

What’s death?

Death is not so easy

as we think.

It’s far beyond

from imagination

and

at the point of

realism.

It is felt

once in a life.

Soul feeds

respiration and pulsation

to fulfil

the incessant hungry stomach

of wild death.

Those are lucky

who return

from jaws of death.

Their experiences and feelings

are far beyond

from our hypothesis.

Ah!

Oh! My God!

One more dead,

and one more will die;

may be me

or

yourself.

No;

I can’t fight

with life; for life

but,

I’ll not make

my hands up

I’ll wait

for death!

That dangerous death

in the lap of whose

thousands of knights slept

in battlefield

on the earth

vigorous than any world war

the life’s war!

☆ For the sake of race ☆

Satyavati’s thoughts turbulent and tumultuous

The course of action she could conceive not

For her selfish ambition of being the maker of kings

From the throne, uprooted was Bheeshma in one shot.

Agreed she had to marry King Shantanu

Only under the condition that her sons be king crowned

Shantanu, with Satyavati besotted and mesmerized

Prince Bheeshma had to take a pledge, duty bound

Now that both her sons were without heir killed

She looked at her daughter-in-laws in disbelief

The only option was that Bheeshma become the king

And conceive sons from them, to everyone’s relief.

Nevertheless, Bheeshma, true to his words

To go back upon his vow and to oblige denied

Satyavati, finally, told him of his premarital son, Vyasa

Who, with Sage Parashar was visualized.

With the permission of Bheeshma for the sake of kingdom,

Sage Vyasa was summoned and to conceive sons ordered

In his state rowdy, was asked to mate Ambika and Ambalika

To preserve the race and carry on the lineage favoured.

(Dr. Nidhi Jain is an Assistant Professor at Bharti Vidyapeeth, College of Engineering, Pune. She selected teaching as her profession, but it was a dream to be a litterateur. Her first book कुछ लम्हे  is a culmination of her interest. Her time management of family,  profession (Teaching in engineering science) and literature is exemplary. Today we present her article “Research and innovation initiatives” based on initiatives being taken by academic and research institutions in India during COVID-19 pandemic.

☆ Weekly Column ☆ From Nidhi’s Pen  #15 ☆

☆ Research and innovation initiatives ☆

When the lives of people are stand still, and colleges, academic institutions, offices, roads, shopping complexes, etc. are closed, the students and teachers are forced to stay at home. Human minds have great desire to fly and it cannot be confined behind the four walls of houses. For harnessing research skills, the professors and students of different research institutions and Colleges have been choosing the boat of research to sail through the river of crisis created by COVID-19 pandemic. World is changing and we need to focus more towards research and innovation. The human race and global economy is on the edge. The only door open for the future generation to be prosperous and attain wisdom is through research and innovation. The world is facing unprecedented challenges and is looking at researchers and innovators to come up with solution to save the world from this crisis. The new medicines and vaccines for treatment, and other innovations for rapid testing are ut-most needed to protect the existence of human race. Scientist and researchers are committed to add the momentum by adding extraordinary dedication towards the society and at large to the country.

India is providing advanced research and innovation based knowledge by pitching the power of coming generation. To leverage the capability in the field of research and innovation, our Prime minister is motivating and guiding the faculty members and students.
During lockdown India’s research initiatives are sowing the seeds for future generation in the field of research and patent filing. Every dark cloud has a silver lining so has COVID-19 which highlighted the importance of research and innovation in our society.  Scientist and researchers are using disrupting digital technologies and playing a pivotal role in achieving success.

India had proved his capabilities by developing his own indigenous kit Covid-19 virus testing kit called Patho Detect. The researcher behind this is Minal Dakhave Bhosale under Mylab’s research and development. Serum Institute Pune developed Covid-19 vaccine in collaboration with US-based Codagenix. The vaccine is in pre-clinical / animal testing phase now.

One in such Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering Lavale, Pune is providing advanced research and innovation based knowledge by pitching the power of coming generation. To leverage the capability in the field of research and innovation had filed 29 patents and around 300 research papers. Dr R.N. Patil, Principal is motivating and guiding the faculty members and students. He himself has filed many patents.  I am sure other academic and research Institutions are also playing vital and positive roles to achieve success in various research and innovation initiatives.

The flux of consciousness, energy, and matter in which nothing is inseparable is Shakti, “Maa Amavarunai”, from her ever-changing Rajas means Vishnu tattva make manifestation possible. When Sattva is about to reach on their threshold the interplay of Sattva, Rajas and Tamas generate first sound, the un-struck sound of ॐ ‘Om’. Then in fast vibrations, first there generate a source of light from center of vibrating Rajas of the Nabhi, Navel of Lord Vishnu. Same time the Tamas fall out separately, study without motion means Lord Shiva and that source of light is actually Lord Brahma, the father of all creature.

When one cycle is completed then again, all three Sattva, Rajas and Tamas merge in to one and complete darkness again. This is the process of manifestation and un-manifestation or creation and obliteration. This is ongoing from immortal time. No one can identify space and time separately in the phase of obliteration.

So, when that light source or Brahma is generated from the Nabhi, Navel of vibrating ‘Rajas’ or Vishnu. He saw that my source of generation is coming from center of vibrating energy. This thinking separated consciousness and matter in that light and a body is appear who is in panic because he was all alone. He bends his head towards that vibrating energy which was also taken the form of beautiful nature creation. So as consciousness of Brahma passes through energy and matter of hid body all his senesce generated then he asked from Lord Vishnu, “O! my creature, who I am and who are you? Why we are alone why I am emerging from your body part from where a beautiful amalgamation of matter (Lotus flower) is going outside, over which I am setting. Please say something because I am feeling very lonely and I am very fearful. I don’t know why my structure upper part has one hole (mouth) which is vibrating and a different sensation is going outside in this vast space? I just feel that something from my middle part of body (heart) is going towards my most upper part (brain) then some sensation is coming out from this hole (mouth)”

☆ Eklavya, a Nishadh? ☆

In the dark corners of the forest

Eklavya, a young man was raised,

Archery was his heart’s call

And since Drona was, for the skill praised-

To Drona, approached Eklavya to his blessings seek

“Please teach me!” was his earnest request.

“Teach yourself if you have in me faith,”

Said Drona, slightly in jest.

Eklavya’s passion was true

Drona’s words, seriously he took

Installing Drona’s effigy

Eklavya practices, while Drona looked!

Pandavas with Drona, on an expedition

And their hound barked and barked

Seeing the situation thus, Eklavya

Took his bow and arrows hit the mark.

The hound’s mouth was gagged

With his jaws opened wide

He could bark no more thus

Arjuna, his surprise, could not hide.

“Isn’t someone a better archer than me?”

Arjuna, from his teacher enquired.

Drona decided to investigate the matter

“Who was it who had so correctly fired?”

Seeing his own effigy, shocked he was

Eklavya, with a bow, prostrated

“Who is your teacher?” Drona asked

“You, sire!” Eklavya stated.

The shrewd Drona, for a fee asked

The naïve Eklavya, agreed without hesitation

“Give me the thumb of your right hand,”

Said Drona with a cunning self-possession!

Eklavya, true to his word, obliged

Sliced his thumb, placed it on his feet

Some call Drona’s decision prudent

Some call it dharma’s defeat!

Trained as warriors full of valour and strength

The Kuru princes displayed their courage and might

Drona’s had made them ready to face the world

And he smiled seeing their display in delight.

To combat King Drupad and he brought as a present

Complying with his wish, off they went

☆ Bheeshma’s Pledge ☆

Your depression and distress I comprehend now

Oh! My dear and beloved father

So? You wish to get home a beautiful lady

And make her your wife and my mother?

Ah! So relieved I am to finally apprehend

The cause of turbulence within your mind and heart

Your affection for me prohibits you from marriage

But father! I am also your humble part!

Heard I have that the lady whom you love

Has laid a condition, an assurance desires

That her sons should become the king, not me

Father, really I am ready for it, I have no ire

I understand that your affection for me forbids you

But father, love is the supreme of all sentiments!

Your happiness is what matters to me the most

How can I be fonder of the throne than my parents?

For a few moments, assuming an elder’s garb

I shall ask the lady’s father for her hand for you

I know that you will be so delighted

And seeing your pleasure, I shall be glad too

I promise that relinquish all claims I shall

To the throne, for that is my dharma

Give me the patience and courage to hold on to it;

The world shall know me and bless me as Bheeshma!
