Dr. Suresh Kumar Mishra, widely known in the world of satire by his pen name ‘Uratipt’, expresses his emotions and thoughts with profound honesty and depth. His satirical writings have earned him a special place in the literary world. His satire, ‘Shikshak Ki Mout’, went massively viral on the Sahitya Aajtak channel, garnering over a million views and reads—a monumental achievement in the history of Hindi satire. His collection of satires, ‘Ek Tinka Ikyavan Aankhen’ (A Straw and Fifty-One Eyes), is also highly acclaimed and includes his timeless work, ‘Kitabon Ki Antim Yatra’ (The Last Journey of Books). Other celebrated collections include ‘Mayaan Ek, Talwar Anek’ (One Sheath, Many Swords), ‘Gapodi Adda’ (The Gossiper’s Den), and ‘Sab Rang Mein Mere Rang’ (My Colors in Every Hue). Dr. Uratript has also played a pivotal role in writing, editing, and coordinating a total of 55 books for the Government of Telangana for primary school, college, and university levels. His work is included in university textbooks in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana, where his satirical creations are part of the curriculum. In the labyrinthine headquarters of Apex Logics, Cubicle 4B was a place of legend. Positioned right beside the executive washroom and under a leaky air conditioner vent, it was officially the worst desk in the building. Yet, for three consecutive years, whoever sat in Cubicle 4B managed to get promoted straight into executive management.
When the news broke that the seat was finally vacant again, an unannounced cold war erupted across the department. Rohan, an ambitious mid-level analyst, decided he would stop at nothing to secure the legendary desk. He bargained with the admin team, brought homemade pastries for the facilities manager, and eventually convinced everyone that his back issue required the exact ergonomic angle provided only by Cubicle 4B.
On his first Monday at the new desk, Rohan sat down with the pride of a king ascending a throne. But within hours, the dark realities of 4B hit him. The air conditioner dripped steady droplets onto his notebook, the door of the washroom creaked incessantly, and a strange, persistent low hum reverberated from the drywall behind him.
Determined to unlock the secret of the desk, Rohan began investigating. He noticed that every ten minutes, top directors, regional managers, and even the Vice President would walk past his desk to use the facilities. Each time they passed, Rohan sat up straight, pulled up complex data dashboards, and offered a perfectly timed, respectful greeting.
By week three, Rohan was exhausted. The dripping water had ruined two keyboards, and the constant foot traffic made concentrating nearly impossible. He began to suspect that the legendary reputation of 4B was an elaborate hoax designed by HR to punish overly ambitious employees.
Then came the quarterly performance review. Managing Director Mr. Kapoor called Rohan into the main boardroom. The room was packed with senior executives. Mr. Kapoor stood up, placed a hand on Rohan’s shoulder, and announced to the entire room that Rohan was being promoted to Operations Director with immediate effect.
Rohan was stunned. “Sir, I am honored, but may I ask what specific strategy of mine impressed the board so much?”
Mr. Kapoor smiled warmly and leaned in closer. “Rohan, every time any of us walked past your desk during the day, you were always staring intensely at high-level financial metrics while everyone else was watching cricket clips. We didn’t realize you sat next to the washroom by choice; we just assumed you were the most dedicated employee in the whole division because you never left your seat!”
The entire executive board stood up and burst into thunderous applause. Rohan smiled, realizing that the secret to corporate success wasn’t hard work or luck, but simply sitting in the path of executive foot traffic.
