आसमान की चादर पर चांदनी
मस्त हो, इतरा रही थी,
उसकी ग़ज़ब सी नज़ाकत थी,
एक पाँव भी आगे बढ़ाती
तो हवा पायल बन खनक उठती,
और उसकी मुस्कान पर तो
सेंकडों लोग फ़िदा थे –
उनमें से एक उसका आशिक़
बेपरवाह समंदर भी था!
समंदर ने उससे कहा,
“बहुत मुहब्बत करता हूँ तुमसे!”
और वो चांदनी इठलाती हुई
उसकी आगोश में समा गयी!
चांदनी तो
यह भी न समझ पायी
कि उसका रूप ही बदल गया है
और वो हो गयी है क़ैद
समंदर के घेरे में…
वो तो उसे एक हसीं मकाँ समझ
खुश रहती!

शाळेतील विज्ञानाचा किंवा भूगोलाचा तास आठवतो का? मग जलचक्रही आठवत असेल. पाण्याची वाफ होऊन पाऊस पडणे आणि हाच क्रम पुनः पुन्हा होत रहाणे म्हणजे जलचक्र. आठवतंय ना? पण हे असं रूक्ष भाषेत समजावून सांगण्यापेक्षा थोड्या अलंकारीक, काव्यात्मक भाषेत सांगितलं तर? विज्ञान आणि तेही काव्यातून ? कठीण वाटतं ना ? पण जो कल्पना विश्वावर राज्य करीत होता आणि शब्द ज्याला मुजरा करीत होते असा एक महाकवी या महाराष्ट्रात होऊन गेला.त्याचं नांव गजानन दिगंबर माडगूळकर म्हणजेच आपले गदिमा ! त्यांनी हा चमत्कार करून दाखवला आहे. हा चमत्कार म्हणजेच आजची त्यांची ‘माहेर’ ही कविता अर्थात ‘नदी सागरा मिळता’.
नदी पर्वतातून उगम पाऊन वाहत येते व शेवटी सागराला जाऊन मिळते. त्यामुळे पर्वत, डोंगर हे तिचे माहेर. ज्याला सर्वस्व अर्पण केले तो सागर तिचा पती. तेच तिचे सासर.ती काही तेथून परत येऊ शकत नाही. म्हणजे तिचे माहेर कायमचे तुटलेच असे म्हणावे लागते. पण हे झाले तुमच्या आमच्या सामान्य लोकांसाठी.कवीची दृष्टी एवढी मर्यादीत असत नाही. शब्दांचे पंख लेऊन कल्पनेच्या विश्वात रसिकांना घेऊन जातो तोच खरा कवी. त्यामुळे नदीचे माहेर तुटले हेच कविला मान्य नाही. कवी काय म्हणतो पहा.
सागर नदीचे अवघे जीवन पोटात घेतो पण नदीला मात्र तिच्या पित्याची, डोंगराची आठवण येत असतेच. कसे भेटावे त्याला ? कसे जावे माहेराला ?
माहेरच्या भेटीची ओढ पूर्ण करण्यासाठी मग ती वाफेचे रूप घेते. वार्याचे पंख लावते आणि मेघांच्या ओंजळीतून पावसाची सर बनून डोंगराच्या पोटी जन्म घेते. वाळे वाजवत वाजवत पुन्हा अवखळ पणे वाहू लागते.शेवटी परत सागराला येऊन मिळते आणि कवीचे जलचक्र पूर्ण होते.

एक रूपकात्मक काव्य. स्त्री सासराशी एकरूप झाली तरी माहेर कसं विसरेल ? माहेरी जाण्याची दुर्दम्य इच्छाशक्ती तिला माहेरी घेऊन जातेच. अगदी नदीप्रमाणे.आणि चार दिवस माहेरपण करून आल्यावर आपोआप सासरची वाट धरते. नदीप्रमाणेच. वर्षानुवर्षे हेच चालत आलय. जीवन चक्र आणि जलचक्रही. खरंच आहे. जीवन म्हणजेच जल ना ?
‘सारे जीवन नदीचे घेतो पोटात सागर’
या ओळीत कविला जीवन म्हणजे आयुष्य आणि नदीचे पाणी अशा दोन्ही अर्थानी तर हा शब्द वापरायचा नसेल ना असे वाटते.
वार्याचे पंख लावून नदी तरंगत तरंगत डोंगराकडे जाते.अगदी तसच, माहेरच्या वाटेवर असतानाच स्त्री मनाला पंख लावून केव्हाच माहेरी पोहोचलेली असते.
कवी म्हणतो, नदी माहेरी जाते, म्हणून जग चालते. माहेरपणाच्या उर्जेवर स्त्री सासरी पुन्हा रमून जाते,असं कविला सुचवायच आहे,असं वाटतं.
